Having ears that stick out is a very common insecurity in both women and men. Surgery of the ear, also known as otoplasty, is a procedure that helps reduce protrusion of the ear away from the head. This is often referred to as ear pinning and can be performed as young as the age of four. Otoplasty will be able to help give you proportionate ears that complement the rest of your facial features.
Description: Otoplasty is a type of surgery that can reshape and reform the ear. During surgery, an incision is made at the back of the ear and one of two techniques are used: removing and reforming cartilage or repositioning the skin at the back of the ear. This allows for a new ear shape, ears that are closer to the skull, and often, an enlivened sense of self-confidence. If you hate your ears, change them.
Dr.Harvey performs otoplasty as an outpatient procedure at his state-of-the-art surgical suite. Incisions are made at the back of the ear and dissolving stitches are often used to hold the cartilage in place during healing. After surgery, the ear is heavily bandaged and you can go home to heal. Most patients take at least a few days off from work, some wait up to a week before returning to regular activities.
